Peru Balsam essential oil is the liquid fraction of the resin from the Myroxylon pereira tree. The aroma chemistry of both the resin and the essential oil are very similar but the essential oil is easier to formulate due to it being readily miscible with your oil or alcohol phase.

This balsam Peru essential oil is a dark, thick balsam obtained by the process of vacuum. Peru balsam emits a vanilla-like, intoxicatingly pungent, sweet scent. When mixed with olive oil, it is used as part of anointing oil in Christianity.
